The Simple Things I get to do as your dad

Dear Julia,

This will be a short entry to let you know that I am taking in all the little things I get to do being your dad. And some of these things I need to cherish, because before I know it, you won’t need me to do things like this anymore.

After you had a busy morning, we got to spend some time together at Daddy’s Place. And like normal, we had a blast. We ran around, played some games together, and you were filled with love, asking for hugs constantly and tell me you were going to follow me around while wrapped around my leg.

Before I knew it, I let you have a little bit of TV time while I made my lunch, and I look over and see you cuddled up to the pillow. Just a few moments after that, your eyes were shut and you drifted off into what was hopefully a beautiful dreamland.

While looking over and seeing you sleeping, so comfortably and perfectly calm, I walked into your room to grab your favorite cheetah blanket. And as I slowly and gently covered you with it, I realized that there will be a time you ask for my help with things, but tucking you in or doing something as simple as putting a blanket over you won’t be needed as much by me anymore.

There are many little things that I will notice over the years like this that I will get to do now with you, but not later on.

For example, I love walking around with you on my shoulders since you enjoy it so much. But one day that won’t something we can do, you’ll be too big and I will be too old.

So for now, I have to take a breath when I look over and take in moments just like this. Because soon you’ll not only be a big girl, you’ll be a woman who I am so excited to see. But I will also be sad since you won’t be my little baby anymore.

I love you Julia.
